Starbucks Carbon

This Starbucks store renovation was a project that Westbank engaged Exhibau to complete because of its complexity and the inclusion of carbon fibre elements. As we had previously built the first carbon fibre stand alone structure for BMW Guggenheim, the experience was existing and ready to use for the execution this Kengo Kuma vision.

Overview

This flagship store entails 51 carbon fibre cabling supports for a likewise countertop having a thickness of just a few millimetres. It is suspended by an array of tension cables attached to the atrium ceiling. The cables also pierce through the table and are anchored to the floor.

The varying geometries of each of the cables made execution difficult as there were existing pre-defined points of penetration through the countertop. This required the ceiling-to-floor cabling points be coordinated flawlessly.

The additional lighting that was added to feature the carbon rods was an additional component to implement during construction progress and the expedited timeline required constant communication lines be open and operating.

EDEN CAFE

The Eden Cafe is a social enterprise, dedicated to providing the Vancouver Downtown Eastside with great coffee and food in a welcoming space for people from all walks of life.

THE IDEA

Eden Cafe started initially when Coastal Church decided to visit the Message Trust in U.K. and got to see and experience the impact they were having in some of the toughest neighbourhoods in Manchester and globally through their Eden teams and social enterprise endeavors. With our love for DTES and long term commitment to asset-based community development we too decided to have an Eden team planted in the heart of DTES in 2017. Three years later on November 25, 2019 we were able to open a social enterprise Cafe as another avenue and strategy to help make our city a better place and support people in rebuilding their lives.

BAKERY SATE

Birthed out of our love and passion for food, coffee and the pure artistry of baking. It's our expression of our creativity, the love for our community and our desire to showcase the very best. At every opportunity we strive to share a distinct experience with each customer - a moment to be remembered.

TRANSFORMATION

We are currently in the process of transforming the interior of the bakery to allow for additional space for the creating and storage of the commercial baked goods that Bakery Sate is so well known for in the city.

Exhibau is in the process of adding an exterior patio awning to this staple establishment. Taking advantage of in-house design and engineering, we are able to assist the Owner throughout the entire process with experience and expertise.
